Polish-American cooperation at Academic High School No 8, IB World School 6265 in Kraków, Poland.
Uczniowie VIII PALO wzięli udział w realizacji międzynarodowego projektu pt. the Power of Culture, wspartym finansowo przez Biuro ds. Edukacji i Kultury Stanów Zjednoczonych (przez organizację IREX – International Research and Exchange Board, Small Grant 2013). Program miał na celu bliższe poznanie kultur i tradycji Indii i Stanów Zjednoczonych poprzez organizację pobytu w VIII PALO dwóch nauczycielek: Mamty Kanti Kumar z Indii oraz Juliette Perlowski ze Stanów Zjednoczonych. Nauczycielki przeprowadziły w szkole warsztaty geograficzne, lekcje dotyczące kreatywnego pisania oraz zajęcia z dramy. Ponadto nasi uczniowie wzięli udział w międzynarodowym konkursie dotyczącym napisania opowiadania, których fabuła toczy się w Krakowie.
Prace naszych uczniów zostały wysoko ocenione przez nauczycielki z Indii, Stanów Zjednoczonych i Polski i w nagrodę opowiadania Nikoli Boroń, Natali Maruty, Anny Bąkowskie, Alicji Koperskiej, Raivo Wasilewskiego, Tomasza Kubacka, Martyny Kulak, Aleksandry Nikoniuk, Piotra Leksandra, Michała Lisowskiego, Mateusza Świdowskiego i Bartka Jaromina zostały opublikowane w wydanej we wrześniu 2013 książce pt. The Power of International Stories: Coming of Age in the Global Village (książka w wersji pdf jest dostępna na stronie: www.stories.annakrzeminska.pl).
Książka jest wynikiem międzynarodowego projektu i zawiera również opowiadania młodzieży licealnej z Armenii, Bangladeszu, Kolumbii, Estonii, Gruzji, Indii, Rosji i Stanów Zjednoczonych.
We have recently been working on the Power of Culture Project; supported by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S Departament of State, through IREX – International Research and Exchange Board.
Students and teachers of Academic High School were organizing the program and stays in Kraków, of two international teachers: Juliette Perlowski from the U.S.A. (Juliette Perlowski is a drama, English and reading instructor at Pompano Beach High School in South Florida. She directs two shows a year, one of which is a work by Shakespeare. She is an ambassador for the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C. since 2006 when she received a National Endowment of Humanities grant to train with instructors and scholars from all over the world, and Mamta Kanti Kumar from India (Mamta Kanti Kumar is an experienced Geography teacher, she is involved in writing chapters on Population in Transition structure to Geography course books in her country, Teaching Excellence Achievement Program Alumna 2010). Our guests conducted the workshops on the national culture; creative, academic writing and drama. Most of IB students were involved into the student-center activities as well as in presenting Polish traditions, history and customs to the teachers. Besides, our guests and school project coordinator, organized the international competition within the Power of Culture Project on the best national story which presents national heritage context. Nine Polish stories have been published in the book: Power of International Stories: Coming of Age in the Global Village. There are 79 authors from 9 countries: the USA, Russia, India, Georgia, Estonia, Colombia, Bangladesh, Armenia and Poland, 66 stories and 11 illustrators all in the age group of 12 to 17, who have contributed to the stories (PDF version of the book is accessible at: www.stories.annakrzeminska.pl). Such initiatives and international students` creativity will definitely help to `make a change in the world`.
