What is IB Diploma Programme?<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

IB DP – International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an edducational programmme aimed at 16-to-18-year olds (the last two years of Polish secondary school) developed by International Baccalaureate Organization [http:\/\/www.ibo.org\/] based in Genevea. The organization accredites schools to teach the programme, evaluates accredtied schools every five years and conducts final exams. The standards of the IB programme as well as its strategic goals are clearly defined and closely supervised by IBO. The standards find their reflection in the so-called \u201cIB learner profile\u201d [https:\/\/ibo.org\/benefits\/learner-profile\/]. In order to obtain IBO accreditation to teach in IB Programme, it is mandatory for a school to meet several requirements (structural, organizational, facilities). VIII PALO gained accreditation in January 2011 and since September 2011 teaches following IB Diploma Programme.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

IB DP in the Polish education system<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Under the Polish law, IB Diploma equals Polish matura exam and constitutes a document which allows university education. It means that all the Polish universities are obliged to include IB Diploma holders in their admission processes. Each university forms its own admission requirements that comply with IB Diploma characteristics, i.e. takes into account subjects offered in IB Programme (the list of subjects differes from the list of subjects taught in the Polish system) as well as exam results (grades on IB Diploma follow the scale from 1 to 7). Many Polish universities form admission requirements that are favourable for IB graduates.<\/p>

Polish schools with public school accreditation (the legal right to issue state school certificates and certificates of secondary education) that want to implement IB Programme in so-called IB DP classes are required to obtain approval of Ministry of National Education.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

General rules for IB DP subject choices<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

IB Diploma Programme is taught in one of the three languages (English, French or Spanish) and includes six subjects chosen from the following groups:<\/p>

Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature.
Group 2: Language Acquisition.
Group 3: Individuals and Societies.
Group 4: Experimental Sciences.
Group 5: Mathematics.
Group 6: The Arts. – optional<\/p>

Students are required to choose on subject from groups 1 to 5. The sixth subject could be chosen from group 6 or it could be an additional subject from groups 2 to 5. Three out of six subjects need to be taken at higher level (HL), the reamining ones on standard level (SL). Moreover, each student is required to take Theory of Knowledge (TOK) which ends with a written assignemnt, as well as write a research paper (Extended Essay). The works are assessed externally and the result is added to the final exam results.
The conditions that allow to obtain IB Diploma also include Creativity, Activity, Service module. The exams are taken in all the six subjects.<\/p>

Our school became the IB-accredited school in September 2011 as IB World School no. 006265, and is legally allowed by International Baccaulaureate Organization to teach following the IB Diploma Programme which prepares students to take IB examinations. VIII PALO began teaching in IB Diploma Programme in the school year 2011\/12 (first examinations took place in May 2013). It was possible due to approval of Ministry of National Education to create DP classes preparing for IB examinations. DP classes preparing for IB examinations can be attended by students who received promotion from class II of Polish secondary school or Pre-IB class II.<\/p>
