Teachers, tutors, support
A teaching staff who genuinely know their students
At VIII PALO no one is anonymous. Every young person is accompanied by a team of experienced teachers, tutors, form tutors, counsellors, psychologists and advisers who together look after their all-round emotional and intellectual development.
Our strength is our people – attentive and committed. Day after day they create a School in which everyone can discover their own potential, pursue their interests and receive support whenever they need it.

Our value
A good school begins with people
When looking for a good high school, parents ask not only about the curriculum, results and extended-level subjects. Above all they ask about people: who will teach my child, who will notice them, who will help in a harder moment and who will guide them wisely through these important years of growing up.
At VIII PALO our real value is an exceptional teaching staff – experienced teachers, tutors, form tutors, advisers, counsellors and psychologists who create an environment that is demanding yet safe; ambitious yet attentive and empathetic; focused on growth yet respectful of each young person’s individuality.
At our School a student never disappears into the crowd. They are seen as an individual and can always count on support from people who are properly prepared to work with young people, empathetic and curious about the world. For us, education is not merely preparation for examinations. It is above all an encounter, building relationships, creating the conditions for growth, fostering a sense of agency and effectiveness, and confidence in one’s own abilities.
Strengths
What sets the VIII PALO teaching staff apart?
Many VIII PALO teachers hold academic degrees and combine classroom experience with university-level knowledge: nearly 25 of them (over a quarter of the staff) hold a doctorate, a habilitation or a university professorship.
More than three decades of running a school with excellent results count for something: we know exactly how to work with young people who aim high and want to grow.
The professionalism of our staff and the small scale of the school make it possible to tailor our work to each student and to get to know them well – their strengths and their educational needs.
Every student has an individual tutor who accompanies them throughout their time at high school.
Students can count on professional help in situations that call for conversation, attentiveness and calm action.
We help students make informed choices about their field of study, university and professional path.
Our philosophy
Teachers who respect their students as individuals and teach them to think
At VIII PALO we help our students recognise their personal potential and teach them how to use it meaningfully.
We work to a standard grounded in personal agency: in line with our Vision, we try to create conditions for growth in which every young person feels a sense of agency, can see the goals of what they do at School as their own, arising from their own intentions, and the School itself as a space of inspiration and a space in which those goals can be achieved.
We know that a sense of agency is a basic condition of human wellbeing. And the condition of agency is freedom, which does not mean doing whatever one likes and is inseparably bound up with responsibility. Awareness of that link is the measure of maturity. And it is the maturity and wellbeing of our students that matter to us most.
We put the emphasis on independent thinking – we care about developing the ability to argue, analyse, ask questions and draw one’s own conclusions. This matters particularly at high school, at a time when a young person is maturing towards increasingly responsible decisions.
Tutoring
Our school tutoring programme
Because we understand what individualised, personalised teaching means, at VIII PALO we have spent years steadily refining our school tutoring programme, whose main aim is to support the development of every young person entrusted to our care.
We are aware of the differences in aptitudes, capabilities, attitudes and expectations between individuals; we realise how important a sense of autonomy and agency is; and we know the methods that build respectful relationships and an atmosphere of trust and safety.
That is precisely why every person studying at VIII PALO has, in addition to a form tutor, an individual tutor who accompanies them throughout their time at high school – never doing things for them, but helping in moments of crisis, encouraging young people to discover their own potential and helping to create the conditions for taking responsible decisions about their own lives.
Support
Every young person has a team around them
At VIII PALO we take a comprehensive approach. Supporting a student is the combined work of a team of adults who look at each young person’s development from different perspectives.
A small school
A small school, where it is easier to build a relationship and spot potential
One of the qualities that make VIII PALO unique is its small scale. In a smaller community teachers really do know their students. They can see who needs a greater challenge, who needs extra motivation, who needs help organising their work calmly, and who simply needs someone to talk to…
That is also why support at VIII PALO is never a matter of chance. Any issue can be noticed early – before a difficulty turns into a serious problem. We can also step in when a young person has potential but not yet the courage to make full use of it.
For a parent, such an environment is of enormous value. Their child is not anonymous, not a number in the register, but a person known to the adults who accompany them every day as they grow.
For parents
Working together with parents
At VIII PALO parents are important partners of the School. Working with form tutors, tutors, teachers and specialists makes it possible to understand a child situation better and to respond to their needs sooner.
We care about communication that is precise, based on partnership and built on trust. Parents receive not only information about results, but also a broader picture: how their child functions within the school community, what progress they are making, what gives them strength and where they need more support.
Cooperation between school and home is an opportunity for synergy. At VIII PALO the shared goal is clear: to create the conditions for all-round development of a young person in a safe environment built on empathy and responsibility, and to inspire and support them wisely.
VIII PALO - a space for meaningful encounters
The well-known philosopher Jozef Tischner held that to truly meet someone means to influence one another, to change, to find new meaning. We believe a school can be a space for such meaningful encounters. We are also aware that a particular responsibility for the quality and the effects of these encounters rests with us – we are the ones who organise and lead the educational process.
That is why we are convinced that a good school cannot confine itself to transmitting ready-made knowledge. A good school must be oriented towards dialogue, must see the individual, discover their potential, support them through difficulties and help them move towards independence and responsibility.
The teachers, tutors, counsellors, psychologists and other specialists at VIII PALO combine knowledge, experience and high expectations with attentiveness to the needs of every young person. They create a space for conversation and for a shared search for meaning.
